2023/24 Secretary's Report

Here is the 125th Annual Report of the Adelaide & Suburban Cricket Association.

SATURDAY COMPETITION
The AGM voted to continue the format of 7 two-day games and 7 one-day games as the Executive could organise it. 2 Clubs were admitted to affiliation at the AGM. Sutton Derby, a team organised by Sunny Kaushik Dasgupta with players sourced from Winter T20 competitions. Adelaide Falcons, a team organised by Simon Thilthorpe with players from Phantoms 2 and others. We lost 2 Clubs. Fitzroy Section 3, 5, 7 & 9 mostly disbanded but took their remaining players to play in Para Districts. Ceylon Strikers Section 3 after their first Saturday season wanted a rest. Just after the AGM, mostly Fitzroy’s A grade asked to join the Association as Country Club and were accepted. WYC Section 1 told us over half their A team was retiring or leaving and they would need to draw from their B team so could they play in S5. ICC Sharks told us they were losing S1 players and would need to draw from their S3 premiers B team so could their B team instead of going up to S2 go down to S4. Warradale said the S3 A team was disbanding just leaving their B team which they wanted to play as low as possibly despite winning the S10 Premiership. When the Fixture was released, we had 76 teams nominated. 7 Sections of 8 and S8 and 9 with 10 teams. The Executive spent much time considering where to place teams in the higher grades and how not to unfairly disadvantage a team that didn’t deserve it. There were some problems we couldn’t solve and as the season progressed it became clear some teams could have been better placed.

WITHDRAWALS
2 sides withdrew both for R4 leaving a bye in S8 and 9. Sutton Derby withdrew for Round 13 causing all Section 1 Outright wins against them to revert to 1st innings wins. Friday afternoon before Round 14 Afghan withdrew their team in protest but the game had already been abandoned. There were 13 Forfeits and 24 Byes.

PLAYING DAYS
The season began on 7th October with 21 weeks of Minor Round Games and Two Weekends of Finals with the Grand Finals bringing the season to a close on 23rd & 24th March. Wet weather on day two, December 9, caused all Round 6 matches to be abandoned as draws. All round 8 matches were abandoned due to rain and Round 14 was abandoned due to a 40 degree forecast the Friday before.

CORONA VIRUS (Covid-19)
The Executive decided Covid was no longer an emergency and as no one was legally prevented from taking part due to it, the disease would be treated like any other illness under the laws of Cricket.

FINALS
All finals were played out. John Zadow did an excellent job appointing an umpire to all semi-finals though 10 matches had only 1 umpire. Having only 9 Sections helped and 10 players not playing in finals agreed to umpire.

ASCA T20 COMPETITION
24 Teams played in the T20 Competition. 10 clubs put in a second team.
Division One had 6 Teams from Section 1 clubs. They played each other once before the top 2 played a Grand Final.
Division Two had 10 teams including the second teams from Coromandel and Coromandel Ramblers reflective of those clubs’ depth of players. They played 5 rounds in 2 pools of 5 before semi-finals between each pool’s top 2. The winners met in a Grand Final.
Division Three had 8 teams including 6 second teams and Kenilworth and South Road. They played 3 rounds in 2 pools of 4 before semi-finals between each pool’s top 2. The winners met in a Grand Final.
Games were played mostly on Tuesday evenings starting at 5.20pm with some Sunday Fixtures required to fit in all games. The weather stopped a few games and Michael Young did another outstanding job liaising with clubs and getting games rescheduled. There were 2 forfeits Round 5 in Division Two. Division Three had a forfeit in Round 1 and 2 forfeits in Round 3.
John Zadow had support from his umpires and appointed umpires for all games, and often 2 letting the players just concentrate on playing.
The Three Grand Finals were played at the two ovals at Hackham on Sunday 18th February. We thank ICC Sharks for preparing the ovals and hosting the Grand Finals.
Division One saw Coromandel Ramblers defeat Coromandel to take home the Jack Voyzey Cup.
Division Two saw Western Youth Centre defeat Plympton Footballers to win the Peter Berkshire Cup.
Division Three saw Happy Valley (2) defeat Mitchell Park (2) to take home the Michael Young Cup.
For the second year the Andrew Wright Medal was awarded to the most valuable player in T20 games. A formula counting runs, wickets and catches gave Thomas Walters of Sheidow Park (2) in Division 3 the medal.

Sunny Singh of Ax Sports Store Edwardstown and Holden Hill offered Vouchers for the best player in each T20 game and gave vouchers to the clubs that won each of the divisions.
The T20 Competition provides a different type of cricket with extra games through the week for the enjoyment of players. A great way for the club to bond while watching their mates play an exciting game.

ASCA REPRESENTATIVE SIDES VS ALEXANDRA AND EASTERN HILLS CRICKET ASSOCIATION
Ray Thatcher organised 2 games. A Senior and U21. U21 played a T20 game Sunday 14 January at Cove. A&EH batted first and scored 6/124. Asca passed the score at 5/125 with 2 balls to spare. Match was umpired by Andrew Wright and John Williams.
Seniors played a T20 game Sunday 25 February at Mt Barker Springs Oval. A&EH batted first for 96. Asca made 5/98 to win the game. Match was umpired by Gerry McGinley.
Thanks to Ray Thatcher for organising all aspects of these games and David Billett who scored and Jack Voyzey who always makes sure he attends.

UMPIRES
Thanks to John Zadow for again organising umpires. We abandoned OfficialsHQ because of its clumsiness so Umpires appointments could not be shown on PlayCricket app or PlayHQ. Instead, a page of games was put on our website to show umpire appointments and all were notified by email.
Last season saw Andrew Wright umpire his 500th game for Adelaide and Suburban. For many years Andrew was the only umpire available for Sunday Association and our T20 games. His support for these games made our competition stronger. My records say Andrew Wright umpired first for us in 1999/2000 season. That makes 24 years of commitment to our Association. John McTier umpired his 100th game. John came to us from Churches and Community cricket and is an active Veterans player. He tells us he has played in or umpired a thousand games in his long career. Phil Megson umpired his 100th game for Adelaide and Suburban and Jeff Blundell his 50th.
Mostly there were 12 umpires available for each round of matches. Section 1 and 2 needed an umpire for each game leaving a few that could be sent where they might best make a difference. We can always use new umpires and it is important we attract younger umpires that will be with us into the future. John Zadow is always keen to talk with those thinking their playing days might be waning but can still stand in the middle of the field and make decisions. Our best umpires are ex-players with long experience.

ADMINISTRATION
Phil Davis – President, John Voyzey – Vice-President, Michael Young – Vice-President, Angelo Pansini – Assistant Secretary, Nathan Jacobs – Treasurer. After 5 years as Secretary Michael Young said he could not continue due to his growing young family and work commitments. Unfortunately, no one else in the Association would accept the role. Michael continued to organise the T20 competition, Jack Voyzey did the Minutes and Phil Davis did permits and clearances.
Also elected to Executive were John Zadow, Shaun Visser, John McTier, Ray Thatcher, John Gritzalis, Bob Pearce, Lee Fuller, Adam Rusk and Gerry McGinley. These are all people who have played a lot of cricket and held responsible positions at their clubs.
Most of the competition is regulated by our Constitution, MCC Laws of Cricket and Special Match Rules however there are disputes, reports of poor conduct and curly ones and it is for the Executive to decide what is fair and what is best for the Association. We don’t often meet but in these days, all can be emailed and give their opinion.
Adam West of West Press has been our printer since 1990 but has closed his business to move on. 34 years is a long time and Adam has always helped us solve problems and get the book to clubs before the season started. Steve Skinner again took on the task of publishing the book and approached several printers. We chose Kwik Kopy Hilton. 140 copies of the Umpires’ Handbook were printed, 1 for each team plus 1 for each club secretary, with copies for the umpires and executive. The book contains:- Special Match Rules; The LBW law and diagrams to help explain when it is out and not out; Important Points for Secretaries and Captains; Directions to grounds and some contacts. Thanks to Steve Skinner for the work he does to produce the book. It’s a busy time and he lightens the load.

125TH DINNER
In lieu of presentation a dinner was organised at Adelaide oval on 24 April to celebrate 125 years of The Adelaide and Suburban Cricket Association. Since the 100 year celebration in 1999, the Association had built a surplus of $40 000 that was used to subsidise the price for present and past players and to give each club 2 free tickets. Almost 300 attended and all reports are that the players enjoyed reminiscing with team-mates and those they have played against over the years.
Nathan Jacobs handled all the hiring of the room, information to clubs, ticket selling and seating. It was a big task but Nathan did make it look easy.
Angelo Pansini organised for Tim Ginever to MC and talk about the benefits of sporting clubs.
Trophies and premiership certificates were not at the dinner but distributed to clubs in an ad hoc basis.

REPORTS & TRIBUNALS
Reports of poor behaviour were received on 11 matches without appointed umpires. Executive suspended 10 players for a total of 27 matches with 4 suspended. 1 fine for an incomplete scorebook. 2 fines for late start. 2 games were forfeited due to playing ineligible players.
Captain reports were entered by most teams on the day following matches. They included Spirit of Cricket Points which were averaged for the season with Spirit of Cricket Champions awarded a pair of batting gloves.
S1 Port Noarlunga and Sheidow Park 7.3
S2 Morphettville Park 8.1
S3 Cove II 8.9
S4 Port Noarlunga II 8.4
S5 South Park 8.3
S6 Morphettville Park III 8.7
S7 Morphettville Park IV 9.1
S8 Coromandel Ramblers IV 8.1
S9 North Haven IV 8.5
The averaged scores were tight with less than 3 points separating top and bottom except in 2 sections.
Reports on grounds and conduct of match were sent to members of executive to monitor and decide when to get clubs to talk more about the issues.

UMPIRE PAYMENTS
The treasurer paying umpires and checking clubs are paying is his greatest chore. Thank you to Nathan for doing this so clubs don’t have to do it on game day. Thank you to the clubs too that pay promptly so they don’t add to the chore.

SPONSORS
Kookaburra Sport has long supported Adelaide and Suburban with cash, balls for finals and equipment. A new five-year deal was accepted for the start of season 2023-24.
ICON Sport was onboard again as the Association preferred supplier and this season saw the Umpires and Executive move to ICON supplied Shirts and Jackets.
Etches Trophies were the supplier of the Trophies for Presentation Night and Sportscentre were a preferred supplier of Kookaburra Balls and some Umpiring items that were required.
We thank Plympton Sports and Social Club who allow us the use of their clubrooms for our meetings at no cost. We thank the clubs and their staff who are always helpful in accommodating us.

PREMIERSHIP CUPS
The Section 1 cup is named as the Halliday Heptinstall in honour of the long-standing Secretary and President of the Association.
The other cups are sponsored by donations. We thank:-
Section 2 ICA Stepney
Section 3 McAvaney Trophies
Section 4 Elder Meat Store in Glengowrie
Section 5 At the Toss of a Coin at Brighton
Section 6 Blackwood Sound on Marion Road
Section 7 Larry Collin at Century 21 Real Estate
Section 9 Keswick Cricket Club in memory of Colin Hopkins and Glenn McGowran

And so we look forward to season 2024/25.

As a new club in 2023-24, the Adelaide Falcon CC (AFCC) has had a promising start. The team reached the semifinals, suffering only three losses during the tournament.
Throughout the season, there were remarkable performances from various players. The statistics clearly show that contributions were spread across the entire team, demonstrating stability and balanced performance, with everyone contributing equally. While winning and performance were highlights of the season, AFCC remained focused on fostering a culture of equal opportunities and shared responsibilities. As a team, we understand the importance of making key decisions through consensus and involvement.
AFCC is committed to reviewing our leadership and key roles annually, allowing for agile rotation among interested players. As a new team, this is a great opportunity for everyone to learn, support the team in different areas, and remain an integral part of the club. We are also continuously working on enhancing the social aspect of the club. Our commitment is to create a healthy social environment and work towards involving more players and families who wish to be part of team celebrations and support throughout the season.
We encourage players who are seeking a club focused on equal opportunities and consensus-driven decision-making, involving each player according to their interests. In the next season, we will continue developing game plans while uplifting players' capabilities to address performance gaps.
Our belief in continuous development keeps us focused on working as one team, enjoying our wins, and embracing a respectful and supportive culture.

2023/24 Club Report

Introduction

The 2023/2024 season was a successful one for ALSC, both on and off the field. Despite initial concerns about player numbers, we managed to field two teams and achieved notable performances throughout the season.

On-Field Success

The club's on-field success was highlighted by several outstanding individual performances. Marko Fedojuk was named the Batter of the Year in Division 9, a testament to his exceptional skills with the bat. ALSC had a total of 34 players, excluding fill-ins, which is a healthy number for maintaining two teams in the future.

Strategic Initiatives

We focused on three key strategic items during the season:

  1. Junior Cricket: Although Michael stepped down from his role in junior cricket, the program continued to grow, with five teams this season. Our senior cricket team recognizes the importance of supporting the junior program to ensure a strong future for the club.

  2. New Training Facility: We successfully completed the construction of a new training facility, which will enhance the development of our players' skills.

  3. New Clubroom Facility: The club is persistently working towards securing a new clubroom facility and will continue its efforts in this regard.

Looking Ahead

As ALSC moves towards the next season, the club has secured funding to replace two hard wicket pitches, which will improve player safety and enjoyment. Recruiting new cricketers, developing skills, and building on the momentum of this season's social events will be crucial for strengthening the club's position.

Acknowledgements

The success of the season can be attributed to the dedication and efforts of various individuals within our club:

  • Captains Finley Borgas and Jim Wills were instrumental in building a strong team culture.

  • Committee members, including Finley, Josh, Parth, Sam, Tarks, and Tom Adler, worked      tirelessly behind the scenes to support the club's activities.

  • Partners and families of our players were recognized for their support, as cricket plays a vital role in the physical, mental, and social well-being of our players.

  • We commend our players for their enthusiasm, passion, and the respectful manner in which they represented ALSC.

Club Person of the Year

The Club Person of the Year award, voted by our committee members, saw eight nominees receive recognition for their outstanding contributions. The winner of this prestigious award was Parth Gohil, who was praised for his exceptional work in communications, love for cricket, and consistent presence at club functions.

Conclusion

ALSC had a memorable 2023/2024 season, with success on the field, growth in player numbers, and progress in strategic initiatives. We look forward to the Annual Cricket Meeting on Tuesday, May 7, and eagerly anticipate the next season, where the club aims to continue building on its reputation as a respectful and friendly club.

2023/24 Club Report

The Afghan Cricket Club had a successful season marked by notable achievements, improved performances, significant community engagement, and some challenges. This summary provides an overview of the key highlights and outcomes from the last season.

We had a strong season and finished 4th in our group with one match declared disqualified, and one match lost by 1 run. Otherwise, we could qualify for the semifinals.

Standout performances came from Matin Stanikzai who got the highest score trophy in the group, Abdul Ghafar Stanikzai received the highest wickets trophy in the group, and Rooahullah received the trophy of fielding in the group.

In the last season, the club faced a few challenges, we couldn't actively participate in the ASCA monthly meetings to actively represent the Afghan Cricket Club, player registration issues, and confusion, which cost us a match that we won. We had three under 18 years of age players. These challenges have also created growth opportunities, as we decided that whoever is captaining the team in the upcoming season should participate in the ASCA meetings, and whoever took the presidency should reply on time to all emails coming from ASCA and SACA and the young players have now become mature enough to properly represent ACC in the upcoming season.

We look forward to further collaboration with ASCA.

Warmly,
Afghan Cricket Club

2023-24 Club Report

The 2023/24 season for the Coromandel Cricket Club was one to remember for all members of our club. We had some significant developments throughout the season, notably the opening of our fantastic new training net facility by Louise Miller-Frost. This facility has been a wonderful addition and allowed all players from all grades to train, as well as being a great addition for the broader community. We thank all involved for their hard work and dedication in getting this project completed. The season culminated in our Seniors presentation night at the Belair Hotel, as well as the ASCA 125th Anniversary Dinner at Adelaide Oval. Both nights were great celebrations of a successful season.

This season we welcomed our new President (Cam van den Bos) and several new committee members. We thank them for their ongoing shared commitment to make Coro a great place to make mates and play cricket. Our numbers were very strong throughout the year, with 82 players playing Seniors cricket at Coromandel.

On field was a success, with all 5 senior sides playing finals. This resulted in 3 grand finals and the C and D grades winning the Section 5 and 7 premierships. Our U/16's Junior side also played off in a grand final, which was a valuable experience for our young future stars. This was an awesome achievement to all involved and makes the hard work throughout the season all worth it. The continuation of youth coming through the ranks is key to the sustainable longevity of our club. This will be our focus for the future, along with harnessing the love for the game that our more established players have. We feel if we can do this, the club will continue to grow as it has in recent years and be a great environment to play cricket.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the ASCA Executive for all of their tireless work they have put in throughout the season. We truly appreciate everything you do to allow us to play the game we love. We would also like to thank all of our sponsors (including our major sponsors Sphere Advisory, WasteAway SA, Stratco St Marys, About Face Clinic and First Advice Solutions) for their continuing support and look forward to another enjoyable season of cricket with ASCA in 2024/25. See you all soon!

2023-24 Club Report

I am delighted to extend my warmest congratulations to all our Ramblers players and their families on yet another fantastic year of cricket.

Our season kicked off with Club Day, a great event that saw a tremendous turnout from both juniors and seniors for uniform orders, registrations, and a free BBQ. The enthusiasm and camaraderie displayed on this day set the tone for the season ahead.

As the preseason flew by, we found ourselves once again immersed in a new season of cricket with 7 junior and 4 senior teams proudly donning the Ramblers colours each weekend. This year, we were pleased to welcome another Under 10 team, bringing the total to 3 teams of young, talented players starting their journey with the club. While this growth has presented some scheduling challenges, particularly on Sunday mornings, I want to express my gratitude to our families for their resilience and patience, especially with the increased number of Friday night games.

Matt Smith and I continue to tirelessly advocate for the final funding needed to complete the changeroom and public facilities at Hawthorndene Oval. I am pleased to report that the State Government has extended our current grant until December. At the time of writing, we are in the process of submitting two additional grants, hopeful of securing the necessary funding to enhance our facilities. Catherine Hutchesson MP continues to advocate for and support the project.

Our club's sponsorship department, under the leadership of Nick Work, continues to thrive. The Sponsorship Loyalty Program has been a resounding success, with over $580K contributed by club members over the last three seasons. I urge you to support our sponsors during the off-season and document your purchases through our club's messenger chat bot. Your support not only keeps your dollars local but also enters you into a draw to win fantastic prizes from the club.

The maintenance of our facilities is a labour of love by our dedicated club volunteers, led by Nick. From riding the club's ride-on mower around Hawthorndene Oval to spending countless hours line marking, Nick's commitment to providing top-notch facilities is commendable. He often takes time off from work to ensure our grounds are in optimal condition for both our junior and senior teams.
Our biggest ever annual Ashley Bryant Memorial T20 was held in January with special guest Hon Peter Malinauskas starting the match with a commemorative first ball. Fundraising at this event with support from both Junior & Senior families provides our U10 program with fee free cricket each year in honour of a tireless volunteer & pioneer of our Junior cricket program.

This year, our senior teams were positioned in Sections 1, 2, 5, and 8, providing us with the opportunity to compete at various levels. It was a great achievement to have two of our four teams, A Grade and B Grade, compete in the finals with the A Grade led by Fabian Saunders securing an incredible third Section 1 Premiership in a row. It was fantastic to see the team win the final played over two days after the previous two years had COVID 19 & poor weather impact the matches.

Another congratulations goes to our Div 1 T20 team, led by Josh Rosman, for securing the premiership at Hackham against Coromandel in February.

Our annual quiz night, held in February, was a tremendous success, thanks to the overwhelming support from senior players and friends. For the second consecutive season, we raised over $8500, making it our biggest fundraiser yet.

I extend my deepest gratitude to the club's committee members, who dedicate tireless hours each week to ensure the smooth operation of our club both on and off the field. We are always on the lookout for new members to bring fresh ideas and share the workload. A stronger junior influence would be invaluable, but if you've ever considered lending a hand, please reach out to me to discuss further. Remember, many hands make light work, and without our dedicated volunteers, our club cannot maintain the high standard we strive for.

A specific thank you must go to Helen Braithwaite our junior coordinator. I maintain Helen has the hardest job in the club. It’s a thankless role that requires many hours of work each week around her own full time job, children and their commitments. Helen also is our Child Safe Officer so please pass on your thanks to her for making our juniors run so smoothly. She makes my job so much easier! Congratulations on being recognised for this effort with your award.

As we enter the off-season, I urge everyone to stay safe and enjoy a well-deserved break. I eagerly anticipate another fantastic season in 2024/25, filled with camaraderie, sportsmanship, and memorable moments on the cricket field.

Warm regards,
Jarryd
President

23/24 Club Report

The club had a good year looking at it through a broad lens, fielding 3 senior and 3 junior teams. Our junior program is coming along in leaps and bounds which is the building blocks of any strong club for a sustainable future.
The A grade started slowly, but came home with a wet sail only just missing out on a finals birth. It was the youngest A grade side the club has fielded in my 20 years at the club. The squad really enjoyed their cricket and gained confidence they can hold their own in section 2.
Our B grade had a tough year, but were able to expose some younger players to section 3. Whilst finishing 2nd bottom, the guys all took the field in great spirit and all represented the club with distinction.
Finally, it was very pleasing to field a C grade for the first time in a few years with new and returning players making up the side. They enjoyed their cricket, played with a smile on their face and made it to the semi final stage. We hope they return again this season.

The club was able to make a profit and are in a healthy and sustainable financial position.

I'd like to thank the executive for their ongoing hard work. Without you, we don't play. It doesn't go unnoticed how many hours you pour into keeping the cogs turning.

Cove AGM to be held Friday 17th May
Will update the executive on changes to the Cove Committee.

Warm regards

Travis

2023-24 Club Report

Flagstaff Hill Cricket Club had a memorable season in 2023-24. Despite starting with two senior teams, unforeseen circumstances led to the tough decision of dropping the second side. However, the first side in Section 4 showcased exceptional cricket, marked by competitiveness, fairness, and numerous victories.
Tom Berndt, at just 17 years old, emerged as our standout performer, accumulating 429 runs and finishing second in section 4. Jacob Lemon led the bowling charts with 27 wickets.
With a strong contingent of young talent across under 10s, 12s, and two under 14s teams, the club is poised for a promising rebuild. Although unable to field an under 16s team this season, plans are in place to rectify this for the next season, potentially bolstering our senior ranks.
Our commitment to competitive and fair cricket was evident in our journey to the Section 4 grand final, a significant achievement for the club. We are proud that our opponents enjoy playing against us, as reflected in match reports.
Special thanks are extended to our dedicated committee, who have laid a solid foundation and in helping new President James Patterson into his role. Excitement brews for the upcoming season, with optimism radiating throughout the club.
Lastly, sincere appreciation is conveyed to the ASCA for their invaluable support in league operations and for orchestrating a memorable 125-year anniversary celebration and presentations, which were thoroughly enjoyed by all at Flagstaff Hill Cricket Club.

Conclusion

As a young club in the ASCA competition, the 2023-24 was a great season with our Team B made to the Grand Finals and Team A qualified for the Semi-Finals for the 2nd consecutive year. We had about 15 new players joining this season and launching our 3rd team, is another achievement. Despite the rain playing  the spoilsport during the crucial rounds, there were lots of learnings and key take away from every game for our club and its players. We truly enjoyed our matches and had lots of fun playing with our teammates and the opponent team players. Most of the teams were friendly and played with us in the right spirit. Our players showed a lot of improvement, courage and sportsmanship and earned more experience and knowledge from this 3rd season in ASCA. We are confident that we will play our best and perform well in the upcoming seasons. We take this opportunity to thank ASCA for their efforts in managing and conducting the cricket competition in a professional manner.

2023-24 Club Report

During the 2023/2024 season, the club faced significant challenges. Two teams were in a rebuilding phase due to the departure of senior players or their unavailability. However, the unwavering commitment to compete and win remained constant. Notably, Section 6 emerged as the epitome of stability. Year after year, they strengthened their position playing in finals and this year brought home the trophy. Their resilience and determination were especially evident on the field during finals which were played during Ramadan so many players were fasting. It was a very special premiership victory!

2023-24 Club Report

Keswick this year fielded three senior sides.
The A’s had an up and down year under first year captain Daljeet Singh and didn’t look like making the finals until an extraordinary outright forced them into the 4. The last game was heated out which meant they made the daunting trek to Ramblers for the Semi where they were outplayed but put up a good fight.
The season was dominated by Rusty. Russell Curyer once again swept up most of the biggest awards but most importantly was recognized by the Association as the best player in the competition and winning a fourth Hewett Medal. He is not only the Association captain and a great representative of Keswick but now the all-time record holder of Hewett Medals. Well done Rusty! He ended up winning the batting, fielding, players choice, JJ Hep, A Grade cricketer of the year and T20 player of the year for Keswick.
New player Nandan Yadav avoided a clean sweep by Rusty by winning the bowling with 31 wickets.

The B’s was captained by Brad Williamson until filling in for the A Grade and their only win came in the second to last game when Jay Burton captained the side. Ross Ormsby, Dave Curyer also filled in captaining the side. Ross Ormsby won the batting and 15 year old Zia Momand won the bowling and Brad Williamson and Shiv Bisht tied for the fielding.

David Curyer captained the C’s which also only won 2 games. Shaun Hansen won both batting and bowling and Tielman Nieuwoudt the fielding.

The T20 was led by Russell Curyer with the bat and Mason Rees with the ball. After 10 years at the helm Scott Curyer has retired from the T20 captaincy.

Russell Curyer and Daljeet Singh represented the association.

Iqrar Momand playing in the A’s won the under 21 cricketer of the year. It was great to see most of the juniors now filtering through the senior ranks.

CENTURIES:
Russell Curyer – 105* V’s Sheidow Park – Sect 1

David Curyer – 119 Vs Morphettville Park – Sect 6

Shaun Hansen 106 Vs Southern Warriors - Sect 6

BOWLING:
Iqrar Momand 5/15 V’s ICC Sharks – Sect 1

Nandan Yadav 7/53 V’s Plympton, 5/30 V’s Port Noarlunga, 6/50 SF V’s Coro Ramblers – Sect 1

Russell Curyer 6/27 V’s Sheidow Park – Sect 1

Shaun Hansen 6/45 Vs ICC Sharks & 6/73 Vs Kenilworth – Sect 6

Congratulations to all who achieved milestone games and milestone runs or wickets.
A special congratulations to Steve Verco 5000 runs, Dean Thomas 3000 runs and Shaun Hansen 800 wickets.
Jay Burton played his 50th game, as did Hardeep Singh. Wade Matthews and Daljeet Singh played 100 games. Scott Curyer played his 200th and Dean Thomas battling health issues played his 250th game.

Our Junior Programme continues to be a thriving success, today we have 8 teams and a thriving cricket blast programme. This season we started to see our junior players filter more consistently into our senior teams. We can really see our hard work is paying off, well done to our 3 Junior Co-Ordinators that we have had over the last 10 years and to all that have helped along the way. We won 2 Premierships this season and now have won 3 premierships in the last 2 seasons. When only U14’s and U16’s play finals, this is a great achievement.

Our committee welcomed a new president Ross Ormsby, after a long reign of Doc Miller with David Curyer being his Vice and Brad Williamson continuing as Secretary. Ross Ormsby was once again junior coordinator and Grant Murphy as Treasurer. The general committee consisted of Liz MacKay, Jay and Kirrily Burton, Daniel Pedler and Russell Curyer. David Curyer was awarded club person of the year.

Thank you to all our sponsors which allow the club to strive. Gold Sponsors The Morphett Arms, High Voltage Contracting, Guardian Interlock. Silver sponsors Ray White Henley, Australian Radiology, Desyn Homes, RDM and Bronze sponsors Air Joinery, Kirra Consulting, Oyster Bar, DC Fencing and Infrapower.

2023-24 Club Report

Mitchell Park had 5 senior sides competing in the Adelaide and Suburban Cricket Association for the 2023-24 season, in Sections 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9. In addition we had 2 sides in the T20 competition, plus under 14 boys and under 18 girls in the junior competitions.

A Grade were co-captained by Josh Aulert and Josh May, finishing 7th with 4 wins in their 2nd season back in Section 2. There were several competitive losses, which hopefully with further development of the young side will convert into more wins next season. Josh Aulert had an incredible year with the bat, leading run scorers across Section 1-3 with 617 runs @ 77.13, including 3 centuries (134* vs Sheidow Park, 110 vs Coromandel, 128 vs Cove). Josh May was next best with 204 runs @ 29.14. Maverick Abbott led the wickets with 25 @ 8.88, followed by Matthew Aylmore with 17 @ 16.82.

B Grade had a difficult season, with a lot of player movement week-to-week finishing with the one win for the season. Nick Szepessy led the runs with 148 @ 13.45, followed by Hugo Groom with 131 @ 26.20. Brad Richardson had a great season with the ball, taking 20 wickets @ 21.2, Nick Szepessy completing a good all-round season with 10 @ 38.80.

C Grade were captained by Keegan Catford, finishing 4th after the minor round in another tight season with 7 wins. They lost a close semi-final to Adelaide Lutheran. The overall batting effort was quite even, Raman Singh leading the way with 351 runs @ 35.10 and 1 century (125* vs Kenilworth), followed by James Domergue with 265 @ 33.13 and 1 century (119 vs Keswick), Troy Spanton with 263 @ 23.91 and Keegan Catford with 240 @ 21.82. Kyle Hanegraaf took the most wickets across combined Section 4-9, finishing the C Grade season with 30 wickets @ 12.93, James Domergue taking 16 wickets @ 19.06.

D Grade had Albert Kurien-Sony step up to captain this year, finishing with one win after losing a number of key players to higher grades throughout the season. They should be commended for the way they fought out the year. Alex Sony took out the runs title, scoring 137 @ 13.7 closely followed by Vikum Chamara with 136 @ 17.00. The bowling load was shared out very evenly, Albert Kurien-Sony taking the most wickets with 11 @ 22.55.

E Grade had Brett Lithgow in charge, and often had the hardest task filling the lowest side each round. Only one match they couldn’t get up a team, and they finished with 2 wins and a number of junior players excelling in their opportunities. 46 different players appeared in at least one match, much of the thanks for this goes to coach Josh Aulert and president PJ Scott working with the captains to find players at the last minute. Richard Jackson scored the most runs with 93 @ 13.29, and shared the leading wickets with 6 @ 29.67, with Chris von der Borch taking 6 wickets @ 22.17.

The B Grade T20 was captained by Keegan Catford, they made it all the way to the Grand Final where they were defeated by Happy Valley in a hard fought final.

The under 18 girls side lost a number of players from the previous season being overage and found the season more challenging. They continued to turn up each week and give their all, the growth of skills was obvious between the first and last game.

Ryan Doherty took on the role of under 14s coach, who played with a number of younger players each week. The development of skills across the season was clear to see, and the club commends Ryan and the parents for all their efforts.

A good crowd attended the MPCC end of season awards night, with Josh Aulert winning the Allan Sutherland trophy for player of the year and the Darryl Reynolds all rounder trophy; Ryan Doherty won the Max Thomas wicket keeper of the year; Kyle Hanegraaf won the T20 player of the year; Bradley Lewis won the junior cricketer of the year; and Hugo Groom won the Mark Sansome fielding trophy.

Sincere thanks must go to club president Peter Scott, secretary Robert Pearce, treasurers Todd May and Brad Richardson, and the entire committee for putting in so much time and effort behind the scenes running the club. Hopefully the club can continue to build on a positive season moving into 2024/25.

2023/24 Club Report

Morphett Vale Cricket Club had an improved 2023/24 season falling just short of finals, missing by 1 win with the final 2 spots in the 4 going down to the final round before rain washed out round 14 ultimately deciding the fate of the finals.

In season 2023/24, Morphett Vale entered only 1 side, which competed in Section 6, due to the lack of numbers from the previous season and preseason turn outs. However, by the start of round 1, approximately 15-18 players were available for selection which thankfully continued throughout the entirety of the summer. In season 2024/25, Morphett Vale are looking promising to fill 2 full sides with extras pushing for selection. New players are always welcome to join the club in the quest to return to finals and hopefully ultimate success.

Morphett Vale also wish to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the volunteers from the Friday Crew who regularly tend to the cricket nets, mark out the lines and maintain the ground ready for home matches at Morphett Vale Oval. The club wouldn’t be able to run on game day without the efforts of the Crew.

Notable milestones from season 2023/24 include Troy Mableson and Tyson-jai Donaghey scoring maiden half centuries, Alex Vlamis equal first in outfield catches for Section 6 with 15, Jay Selwyn-Shore for his Section 6 bowling trophy collecting 31 wickets with an average of 8.52, and Tyson-jai Donaghey bowling a personal best 6/22.

Morphett Vale are looking forward to a promising 2024/25 season with an eye on returning to finals and being competitive in both sections.

2023/24 Club Report

Loss of players from higher grades was a concern during Morphettville Park's 2023-24 season. The Club still fielded five sides each match which required 93 players with only A and B-grade making the finals. The A-grade hovered in and around second place all season, sharing minor round wins with top side North Haven. With a makeshift side they won a tense semi-final by one run off the last ball, to play North Haven away in the Grand Final which was another tight, fluctuating match they lost by one-wicket. Finalists every season since 2016-17, now with consecutive grand final losses; hopefully they will go one better next season.

Due to those pre-season player losses, the B's requested the Association move them down one grade, which was denied. Remaining in Section 3, they promoted some youngsters and defied pre-season predictions to make the finals. Injuries and absences worsened in the second half of the season, especially for their semi-final. Despite not batting against Happy Valley during the season due to weather conditions, they pushed the eventual premier to within two-wickets of victory.

The ripple effect of players being promoted made the job harder for our other sides. The C's battled well and had a chance of making the finals, but faded to finish sixth. Our D's – with just one win – finished eighth to collect the Club's 16th wooden spoon. The E's had five wins from 12 games but were just off the pace and finished sixth.

Morphettville's encouragement of junior players through all our sides was assisted by Trent English's coordination of training. This was best evidenced by having four players under 21 in our A-grade grand final team. These are positive signs with youngsters rising and senior players in lower grades developing inexperienced players. Our emphasis on sportsmanship was highlighted by winning four Sections of ASCA's Spirit of Cricket awards.

Opening batsman Dan Voyzey became the A-grade's fifth captain since 2020. That didn't impede his form as he won his fourth consecutive batting trophy with the Club best of 582 runs that included two centuries, the higher being 132 runs. Dan again won Section Two's Zadow Medal. Ever reliable Scott Paterson scored 327 runs; the tenth time in A-grade he has passed 250-runs in a season. Aggressive opener Daniel Florance scored 228 with a best of 73. while wicket-keeper Don Caruso scored 167 plus 10 catches, and allrounder Mat Wolfenden scored 140. Promising Xander Allison, promoted from the B's, impressed with some solid innings, especially in both finals, scored 116 runs. The best partnership was 165 by Florence and Voyzey for the first wicket.

Including finals, reliable pace bowler Mat Wolfenden won his first bowling trophy with 25 wickets, his best being 5/29. Spinner Dan Voyzey collected 22 wickets. Four-time winner Aaron Fishwick took 21 wickets, with young spinner Jordan Ritter snaring 12 that included the season's best haul of 5/11.

Morphettville Park fielded one Twenty20 side playing in Division 2 of ASCA's T20 competition. They had one win and three close losses. Best with the bat were Captain Matt Scott, plus Mat Wolfenden and Kane Landorf.

In the bowling Wes Trebilcock, Kane Landorf, Mat Wolfenden and Luke Debrowski excelled. Wolfenden, who was our T20 Player of the Season, took a hat-trick against Plympton Footballers.

Our B's in Section 3 finished third after losing their tight semi-final to the eventual premier. Captain Kevin Brokensha was Mr Consistent, passing the 500-run mark for the second consecutive season. With 572 runs that included five fifties, a lowest score of 20 and the side's best of 84. Kev now has the second and third highest B-grade season aggregates.

Reliable batsman Kym Woodward scored 255 runs, while Mark Voyzey got 191 and Matt Scott scored 159. Other contributors were Wes Trebilcock with 101 runs and from limited appearances, Baharat Roocke scored 101, Xander Allison 98, and Alex Tunney 95. Kev and Mark shared the best partnerships with an undefeated 95 for the fourth wicket.

Luke Debrowski won the Section 3 fielding trophy. Dependable paceman Kane Landorf claimed his seventh bowling trophy (6B's, 1D's) with a Club best of 28 wickets and innings best of 6/28. Kev Brokensha again displayed his allrounder credentials with 14 wickets, closely followed by Wes Trebilcock with 13 and Aiden Walsh 11.

Ben Porter's C-grade started well with wins against the two eventual grand finalists but faded with only one win after mid-November. Anosh Vakeel led the batting with 196 runs that included his maiden century. Pat Broadwood scored 188 runs, Daniel Monro 177, and Roshan Bandara 150. Newcomer Angus Tayleur from one innings scored his maiden century with 136 runs. Porter made 118 runs and Brenton Crosby got 101. Monro and Jordan Porter shared the best partnership with 82 for the second wicket. On a dark day against Adelaide Lutheran our C-grade conceded 4/414 the third highest innings score against our C-grade and sixth highest in the Club's 103 seasons.

Another tight finish for the bowling trophy saw 2022-23's lowest C-grade aggregate for 20 seasons tumble again, with this season's winner, Brenton Crosby taking 14 wickets, just beating Jagjit Ghotra's 13. Jordan Porter's nine wickets included the season's best of 4/23. William Lamb took 8 wickets as well as the fielding trophy. Pat Broadwood and keeper Daniel Monro both took six catches. Ben Porter won the Section 6 wicket-keeping trophy.

The D-grade had three skippers, Andrew Jones until injured, Ben Webb and Mark Voyzey, but regrettably recorded only one win for the season. Turnover was high; only seven players played at least half the D-grade season. Mathew Muldoon won the batting trophy with 143 runs, the lowest ever in the D's 24 seasons. Assistance came from Lenny Gagliardi 105 runs, Abhijeet Singh 102, Michael Barnett 96, while Billy Rowswell made the season's highest with 86. Billy and Jacob Fishwick shared the best partnership, an undefeated 94 for the second wicket. Mat Muldoon and Stef Daskalos each took four catches. Jordan von der Borch won the fielding trophy.

The D-grade bowling trophy was shared by Muldoon and Gagliardi with eight wickets, two fewer than the 2014-15 low of 10. Pierson Roach had the best innings return with 3/37 in his six wickets. Chris von der Borch took five.

Damien Tucker's E-grade in Section 9 recorded five wins from their twelve games. Chris Spehr's 444 runs included the Club high of 146 (his 21st century) to win the E's batting for the second time, for a Club total of 10 (2A's, 1C's, 5D's, 2E's). Angus Tayleur scored 185 and Peter Roach made 123. Ben and Nick Shepherdson scored 99 and 89 runs respectively. Travis Hebbard from a couple of appearances scored 99 that included sharing the highest partnership of 149 for the first wicket with Peter Roach.

Again, this season only two bowlers got to double figures: Nick Shepherdson 13 and Patrick Roach 12. Peter Roach's 9 wickets included the season's best of 5/11. Damien Tucker took six catches to win the fielding trophy, while Luke Dubois with 11 catches won the Section 9 wicket-keeping trophy.

A key objective of the Club's E-grade is to give younger players an introduction to senior cricket at Morphettville, promoting promising players and encouraging others. They did that very well, with a strong family participation link that culminated in a Club first with Luke and Anne Dubois being the first brother and sister to play in a Morphettville Park side.

This year, an appreciation award - the ‘Everyday Hero' award - was presented to one of Morphettville Park's longest serving treasured stalwarts, Nick Valstar, acknowledging his almost 20 years of unwavering, forever-friendly service to both the cricket and football clubs and its patrons. Well-deserved and fantastic to have his efforts formally recognised.

Several social functions were held with the early season quiz night building Club spirit. Luke Debrowski organised a breast cancer research and assistance fundraiser with a Sunday T20 match between Morphettville Park players and Belair Old Boys. The match was played in front of a good crowd and raised a healthy sum to fight breast cancer.

During the season we sadly lost Simon Cooper 641 and Team of the Century star Ray Lee 117.Both were well remembered with a few drinks.

Two of the Clubs best-ever bowlers, Geoff Hardy and Herb Cochrane, became the third and fourth members of the Hall of Fame. At the 2023 AGM Geoff George, Jack Voyzey and Geoff Hardy were made Patrons of the Club, to join long-time Patrons Graham Tuohy and Herb Cochrane.

In our best-ever junior season, Morphettville Park fielded five sides that included two premiers: Under-15 girls and Under-14 boys. Those flags were fulfilling achievements for players, supporters and the Club. Having around sixty young players enjoying their cricket at Morphettville is a good portent for our future.

Our two under-10 sides were coached by Ben Webb and Mark Voyzey; under-12s by Jacob Fishwick; under-14s by Chris Spehr and Damien Carlson with the under-15 girls by Chris King and Mikayla Mark. Peter Roach and Mark Voyzey oversaw operations.

Thanks to our junior program, several youngsters and some parents played in senior sides.

The Roos Squad continued their enjoyment of cricket at Morphettville. So appreciative were they that they donated a BBQ to the Sporting Club.

At Committee level, Scott Paterson stepped down as President after three years, with Ben Porter replacing him. Sandra Brokensha and Mark Voyzey continued as Secretary and Treasurer respectively, with Dean Ratcliff assisting Mark. The Committee incorporated a few new members and with the help of some non-elected members gave the Club a strong functioning base.

SMS and social media again conveyed match scores and news to Club members, with the Facebook member base continuing to grow.

Financial help came from our Sponsors: Commercial Finance Australia; Cowan Restoration Services; Bayside Bakery; Samios Plumbing Systems; Morphettville IGA; Newmarket Ingredients; Smart Conveyancing; Geoff George: VIP Lawns and Gardens; Direct Couriers; Southern Cross Meats; Brush Hair Salon.

There is healthy change happening at Morphettville Park with younger players moving upward through the grades because of talent, continuing players performing well and encouraging others. Despite struggling for players in a few matches we always fielded five sides when some other clubs would have forfeited.

Hopefully 2024-25 will see new recruits, some players returning, plus the continued improvement and involvement of younger players, which must improve all grades. Maybe our Ds will drop to Section 8 but our four other sides will probably play in the same Sections.

Morphettville Park Cricket Club has a lot going for it. The Committee runs the Club well. We are sound financially, our playing and practice facilities are very good, plus there is a great Club spirit and plenty of supporters. It would not be outlandish to expect most grades to play finals next season. While our senior premiership drought continues past a decade, there are encouraging signs that next season it will be over.

2023-24 Club Report

North Haven Cricket club entered its 46th year, with senior teams playing in Sections 2,4,7 & 9. After a successful past couple of years with premierships in 3 out of 4 years we were excited to try and get another one on the board.

With some new and previous players joining the club, our A grade looked strong on paper from the out-set and going 9-2 in the regular season was a testament to that. The longer the season went the more murmurs started floating around the club – could they achieve the ultimate and win the premiership but more importantly get back to Section 1? Aiden Hinsley had another astounding season with the bat hitting 559 runs @ 46.58 with a high score of 123. The fast bowling quartet was definitely the most impressive thing for the A grade though with 4 players taking 20+ wickets, Jake Finch being the best with 29 @ 18.62. Ultimately for the A grade they did make it to the Grand Final and a showdown with a club rival Morphettville Park. I personally have never seen a match have so many different momentum swings. Morphettville batted first and made a respectable 176. We knew we were going to have to bat well and at 2/100 we were sitting pretty and the mood on the sidelines was infectious. To then lose 7/30 was a typical North Haven collapse and with 36 to win, I think everyone gave up – except for Morphettville and the two batters out in the middle, Maxim Hosking and Matthew Davidson. To watch them chip away at the total was pretty impressive and the atmosphere was incredible. No one wanted to move; no one was leaving; I think some people might have stopped breathing. When Maxim hit the winning runs a four over mid-off I don’t think anyone from either side fully understood what they had just witnessed.

The B grade had a strange season. With the improvement of the depth at the club it would have been slightly expected that the B grade would profit. Unfortunately, with the A grade not having a consistent side and injuries, the B grade copped a wide variety of players coming up from the lower grades. Round 14 was being billed as an Elimination final for B grade against Port Noarlunga. Unfortunately, as we all know Mother Nature had other ideas. Fortunately, that meant we made the top 4 by .03 Quotient. Unfortunately, the A grade had a wedding on Semi-final weekend and teams were thrown into chaos. The B grade was bowled out for 22 in a dismal performance but very undermanned. The Captain Corey Ford won the Batting trophy with 288 runs @ 32, Zander Coppins won his first Bowling trophy with 19 wickets @ 18.11.

The C grade was looking for back-to-back premierships after an amazing end to last season. They were in the mix all season and were looking good to have a crack when they finished 2nd. Unfortunately like the B grade, C grade did not have the side required to have any chance in the Semifinal and got bowled out for 56 leaving a bitter taste in some of the boys’ mouths after such a promising season. Greg Cappelluti won the Batting with 284 runs @40.57 - funnily enough his brother pipped him for the average with 42.5. The Bowling went to Jason Macaitis with 21 wickets @12.38.

It was great to have the D grade back this year after a few years of absence. The D grade was filled with a few wise heads but mostly kids trying to learn the craft of senior cricket. The team as a whole was competitive for most of the year. They had a very realistic chance to make the top four in the closing rounds. Unfortunately, the lack of experience proved costly and in the end they finished 6th which was still a great result. The Batting was won by the captain Scott Mitchell with 479 runs @59.88 and a highest score of 150. The bowling went to our young 14 year old leg spinner Reuben Pattie who won the Section 9 bowling for the Association and his first senior bowling trophy with 21 wickets @20.81.

Overall the club had a successful year winning another premiership. The club has grown its juniors program again and might start to reap the rewards this coming season or next as they start filtering more into the seniors program. The club is excited for the opportunity to be in Section 1 again. Hopefully we can have some more success at the top level than the last couple of attempts.

2023-24 Club Report

For Phantoms Cricket, 2023/24 was a pretty tough season from the start. As a result, our teams weren’t able to produce the level of cricket we would have wanted on the field. Though players and teams did their best in every game, there were a few distractions which may have affected some players and the club as a whole. That said, both the A's and B's were able to achieve some fantastic wins, and the playing group had a great time together off the field.

Some highlights for the season included a return to form with the bat for Cameron Moore, getting 267 runs for the season, and captain Simon Krieg spearheading the attack with the ball taking 15 wickets in the A’s. Matt Polkinghorne got in a few good innings to achieve 230 runs, and Senthil Kalimuthu who was always reliable in the bowling attack, also taking 15 wickets in the B’s.

The club introduced a number of junior players into the senior playing group for the first time in over a decade, which was a very exciting step for the club. With ongoing support, training and encouragement, we look forward to this next progression in the club’s future. A highlight was young Mitchell Holland earning the respect of his team taking one of the club awards in B's for his efforts across the season.

Cheers, Matt

2023/24 Club Report

A Grade (Section 1)

Nick Webster took lead of the A grade for the first time. Despite only winning 1 game they competed hard and found themselves regularly in winnable positions.

With expected improvement in the juniors and new players, the club hopes to see more section 1 wins next season.

Best with the bat was Jake McCann with 397 runs followed by Nick Webster with 192.

Best with the ball was Justin Skinner with 20 wickets followed by Brock Pomeroy with 13.

B Grade (Section 4)

Due to limited numbers we had to combine our B grade and C grade teams.

Rob Wilde took charge of the B grade team and they competed as best they could despite being out of their depth much of the time.

Best with the bat was Simon Tregenza and Neil Tredwell with 178 runs

Best with the ball was Robert Wilde with 8 wickets.

T20 (Division 2)

In a season where wins were hard to come by, we enjoyed winning some games in the T20 comp and made it through to the Grand Final. Unfortunately, Western Youth had our measure on the final day!

Most T20 runs was Shehan Dayaratne with 192 runs. Most wickets was Saket Singh with 8 wickets.

Sponsors

We are very appreciative to have had the support of these sponsors throughout the year: National Property Buyers, Mayger Lift & Shift, Tredwell Management, Mark Withers Tiling, Bray St Coffee Roasters, Stagg Fine Foods, Physio Sports & Performance & The Hwy Hotel.

We wish everyone the best of luck for the upcoming season!

2023/24 Club Report

Another great season for the White Pointers: 4 teams and 2 final appearances. 3 of the 4 teams moved up at least 1 section from last season so 2 final appearances was an outstanding result for the Club.

Club Person of the Year: Jared Rogers

Senior Cricketer of the Year: Anthony Burgess
Senior T20 Player of the year: Luke Goldner
Senior Club Batting: Anthony Burgess
Senior Club Bowling: Dillon Burns

Section 1
Mick Fitzgerald Medal: Anthony Burgess
Best Team Man: Leon Hanson
Captain: Mitchell Bennie
Backing up a very successful 2022/23 season was always going to be challenging but A Grade took to Section 1 with everything they had, finishing 2nd in the standings overall: a tremendous reward for effort. Not many teams make it to finals (let alone the grand final) in the first season after promotion, but this team built on the previous season’s camaraderie and strong team performance. The team was quite stable with few changes each week resulting in a ‘play for all’ attitude.
Award winners: Batting  Anthony Burgess; Bowling  Dillon Burns; Fielding  Oliver Goss and Joseph Butterworth.
Significant milestones: Scott Houston 109*, Luke Goldner 7/17, Mitchell Bennie 7/24, Dillon Burns 6/52, 6/80 and 5/10 (including a hat trick)

Section 4
Mal Pollitt Medal: Thomas Kennedy and Matthew Ray
Best Team Man: James Smale
Captain: Matthew Ray
B Grade started the season slowly but a first win in R3 reinvigorated the team, stringing together a few wins in the lead up to the Christmas break. January brought some consistency to the team and another 3 wins however a final week heat-out was the end of the season. A great year of learning for B Grade.
Award winners: Batting  James Smale; Bowling  Thomas Kennedy; Fielding  Oliver Goss
Significant milestone: Matthew Ray 5/1 (including a double hat trick)

Section 7
Steve Holst Medal: Kym McDonald
Best Team Man: Kym McDonald
Captain: Luke Munro
A difficult end to a fabulous season for our C Grade team. Moving up 2 sections from last season the team finished the standings on top of the ladder, but a semi-final loss was an exit to the season a week earlier than they hoped. The team playing list was not settled until post Christmas but when that was established the group displayed the great camaraderie of our Club.
Award winners: Batting  Charlie Holm; Bowling  Kym McDonald; Fielding  Iain Still, Jitin Khanna and Kym McDonald
Significant milestones: Charlie Holm 154*, Kym McDonald 7/11 (including a hat trick), Ethan Scrivener 6/38

Section 10
Tony Williams Medal: Brodie Patterson
Best Team Man: Callum White
Captain: Michael Mott / Tim Vermeer / Michael Patterson
Our D Grade team again approached the season with a mix of competitiveness and fun! But, as is the experience for all club’s lowest team, this team was the hardest to fill with players being moved up to cover availability and then match-day changes. There were a number of senior debuts for young players (some as young as 11) and forfeits. A credit to our season’s captains Michael Mott, Tim Vermeer and Michael Patterson for keeping the wheels on. This team is the epitome of our Club’s culture – continuing to play for each other and our Club, regardless of the team list.
Award winners: Batting  Jeff Bradshaw; Bowling  Brodie Patterson; Fielding  Dominic Lagana
Significant milestones: Vito Biangiardo 117, Joseph Butterworth 107, Brodie Patterson 3/17 (including a hat trick)

2023-24 Club Report

In season 2023/24, the St John’s Old Scholars Cricket Club fielded one team in Section 2 of the Adelaide and Suburban Cricket Association (ASCA). In season 2022/23, our team won the Section 4 premiership, and we were moved up 2 sections as a result. Before the season started, we were unsure on how our team would perform in Section 2. Although we didn’t make finals, we weren’t out of our depth. We came 6th out of 8 teams, with 5 wins, 6 losses, and 3 draws due to weather.

2023/24 was our third season as a club, and we continued to grow in many ways. We had a squad of 15 players, which is our most yet. We had 4 club sponsors, 3 of which were brand new at the start of the season. It was our second season being sponsored by the Belair Hotel, where we hold all our club events, and our first season being sponsored by Faultless Carpentry & Construct, Belair Dental Care, and RJ Media. Riley from RJ Media is a very talented young photographer, and it was a privilege to be able to have him take some impressive photos at several of our games and our presentation night. These can be found on the club Facebook page. I would like to thank all our sponsors for their extremely generous support this season. We are very grateful to have had these businesses on board and were proud to wear their logos on our shirts.

There were several highlights during our season, one of which was our first win for the season in round 2. We had a one-day game against Cove at Cove. We lost the toss and got sent in to bat and had a very rocky start to our innings. The openers only put on 12 runs before both being dismissed. Our number 3 and 5 were both gone for single figures, and Nik Gacic at number 4 was just starting to build an innings before being caught on the mid-wicket boundary for 18. Sam Tonkin came to the crease in the 15th over at 4/38 and saved us from a big collapse. He consistently kept the scoreboard ticking over despite several wickets falling at the other end and got us to 8/130 before being dismissed for 64. After some last-minute heroics from our tailenders, we were all out for 147 after 34.3 overs. Patrick Douglas opened the bowling and took the first wicket on the fourth ball of the innings thanks to a great catch from Nik Gacic at second slip. Patrick then followed that up with the next two wickets of the innings during a solid opening spell. Meanwhile, Sam Tonkin also cleaned up 2 batsmen inside 2 overs from the other end. After Angus Keates and Liam Markham were brought onto bowl, the game didn’t last much longer. Gus bowled 6 overs and took 1/3 including 4 maidens. At the other end, Liam bowled 5.3 overs and took 4/4 including 3 maidens. Both bowlers bowled a total of 11.3 overs as a partnership, including 7 maidens, and only got hit for a total of 7 runs. At one point, Cove were 2/42, and we took 8/16 to bowl them out for 58. This is the lowest score our team has bowled another team out for in our 3 seasons as a club.

There were a few individual performances which stood out through the season. There were 7 half-centuries and 1 century scored. Phil Scott had the highest individual score for the season with 125 against Sheidow Park in round 13. Two 5-wicket hauls were taken this season, both by Angus Keates, with his best one being 6/55 off 19 overs against Coromandel in Round 4. Phil Scott and Tate Steele contributed to the only 100+ run partnership for the season with a 5th wicket partnership of 148 also against Sheidow Park in round 13.

On Friday the 19th of April, the St John’s Old Scholars Cricket Club had our presentation night for the 2023/24 season at the Belair Hotel. It was a great night that allowed us to celebrate another cricket season together, acknowledge some exceptional individual and team performances, and present some awards. Our award winners consisted of:
Century Award: Phil Scott
5 Wicket Haul Awards: Angus Keates x2
Fielding Award: Phil Scott
Batting Award: Chris Francis
Bowling Award: Angus Keates
Duck Award: Tate Steele
Johncock Clubman Award: Chris Francis

On Wednesday the 24th of April, the ASCA held their 125th year Anniversary Presentations in the Ian McLachlan room of the Adelaide Oval. It was a successful night for our club with 2 of our players winning awards. Sam Francis took home the Section 2 Jim Coulls Memorial Wicket Keeping Trophy with 49 votes, and Angus Keates was awarded the Section 2 David Neil Bowling Trophy with 32 wickets. Gus also ended up coming 4th in the Zadow Medal count, an award given to the MVP of Section 2 voted by the umpires.

Overall, it was another successful season for the St John’s Old Scholars Cricket Club. We all had lots of fun every Saturday no matter what the result was on the field, which is our main goal. I would like to thank ASCA President Phil Davis and the rest of the ASCA executive for their hard work behind the scenes. We are keen to keep playing together as a team and keep growing our club going into our fourth season in 2024/25.

Chris Francis
SJOSCC President

2023-24 Club Report

Sheidow Park Cricket Club continues to grow strongly, this has not been more evident as we had another solid season both on and off the field in 2023/24.

As a club, we consolidated our Junior and Senior programs with 14 teams representing the club (T20 inclusive) throughout the year.

We would like to thank both the ASCA (plus umpires) and the SCJCA committees for providing the programs for our teams to participate. ASCA, we hope your 125th Year celebrations are a success.

This year we didn’t see as much silverware success, however, were competitive across the board. The under 14’s led the way by successfully progressing to the semi-final stages of their Sunday and T20 competitions. Our Div 3 T20 squad Captained by Arren Harvey just fell short against Mitchell Park in the semi-final stages, but it was a great result for the club as we continued to show enthusiasm for competing in this form of the game.

A few of our Senior squads set themselves up with a chance of participating in the final’s series and yet again the weather played havoc to end off their season, somewhat prematurely. A shining light did present itself with our C Grade squad in Sect 5 led by Ben Crichton playing off in a semi against Happy Valley. The lads were primed to perform in front of a big club crowd. It was a see sawing tussle; however, the boys just fell short of a respectable total produced by Happy Valley. Well done lads on a very rewarding season.

I would like to thank all the Captains/Coaches/Managers/Volunteers and Committee members (inclusive Jnr/Snr) across the club for your leadership and dedication on continuing to build our culture now and for the future. For without your commitment to the club we would not have achieved anywhere near the success we had.

Congratulations to all players that were selected in representative teams throughout the year, another indication of how strong our club is.

Congratulations to all our individual awards winners across the club -great effort. There were some monumental milestones achieved by individuals this year. I would like to make special mention to Craig Edwards who became only the 5th Player to reach 200 games for the club. Craig has been a dedicated member of our community over the years with his input into the committee and on the field. It is well deserved recognition that he can achieve this milestone.

Thank you to the committee for setting the structure in place that allowed us to participate across all formats of the game. We all know it takes a lot of work in the background to get things up and running before season starts. The administration doesn’t stop once the season starts and continues well into the offseason – so thank you for your dedication to the club.

Thanks to Rusky for continuing to keep our records up to date and completing our scorebooks.

Thank you to all our sponsors for your continued support of our club, without your support we could not participate week in week out.

As most would be aware as a club, we were successful in several grant applications throughout the year which assist us in purchasing equipment required across the club and keeping fees for playing as low as possible. One grant led to a new pitch being installed at the Pit. Although this did cause some minor disruption across the club with changing of venues and team allocations to the Pit. I would like to thank all those that made it a reality, whether that be in the Grant application process, remaining flexible on where you were allocated to play, organising contractors, or assisting with maintenance to get the pitch up and running as soon as practicable. It was great to see our community come together in the form of a working bee to assist speeding up the process to making the pitch playable.

On the Social front well done to Justin Richards and crew for delivering on some great engagement activities throughout the year. The Christmas show sponsored by RC Gardening; Sponsor/past players day were very successful events which took a lot of planning. So, thank you for making them happen. I am sure all that attended enjoyed their days.

On the financial front we will finish the year with approx. $15k in our operating account and $30k in the building fund. Financially remain in a stable position.

Finally, to sign off for 2023/24 well done to the club on another successful year. I would like to thank all volunteers and their partners across our club this year. Thank you everyone for your support of our great club, stay safe and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

GARRY HARDING

2023/24 Club Report

South Park Cricket Club had a very challenging season during 23/24. This is the 1st time in 5 years missing out to play finals as the club is going thorough a rebuild phase with new talents. Given the club got 35+ members, only managed to register 25 members for the season. Out of which only 11 players managed to play 7 or more games.

South Park have lost a chunk of the core team members who contributed to the team’s success over the last 4 years, which resulted in the game performance. The club is looking to expand and bring in new players who can become part of the team and continue the legacy of the successful team in the future.

The Club went through massive changes to function smoothly, with New President, Captain, and Vice-Captain. Congratulations to the Captain Wajahat Saeed and the Vice Captain Arsalan Mustafa who kept the moral of the team during tough times.

Throughout the year, we tried to give our best both on and off field with some of the debutants scoring consistently in batting.

Other highlights include the introduction of 13 new players to the club this season, out of which 12 had a chance to represent the club on field. Being a one team club it’s vitally important to continue to be all inclusive and grow together to improve and enjoy our cricket.

South Park would like to thank all of our committee members for their dedication and hard work put into improving the position of the club both on and off the field. We look forward to season 2024-25 with a great sense of optimism that we can further improve the club.

Thanks to the Goodwood Hotel and AX Sports for their generosity as sponsor and we look forward to their ongoing support.

The trophy winners for season 2023-24 were:

Cricketer of the Year: Ashwin Srikanth

Robert Ferguson Batting: Akbar Hameed – 283 runs

Paul Askew Bowling: Arslan Mustafa - 17 wickets

Fielding: Logan Arumugam – 9 catches & 2 Run outs

Captains Award: Arslan Mustafa

Kevin Spencer Club Man Award: Vinod Vaithiyanathan

Congratulations to the trophy winners and we look forward to the challenges that lie ahead in season 2024-25.

Thank you.

2023-24 Club Report

South Road Cricket Club, like all clubs, are battling post covid times. Unfortunately, numbers are down across all teams, but despite this we still managed to get two teams out on the track.

Our A grade had a disappointing year. They started off strong with a few wins but losing our leading run scorer to a turf team put the brakes on the season. While we had flashes in games, we never put a whole day together to get the points required and missed out on finals.

Our B Grade built on their strong season from the previous year. Having a strong season and finishing second, they were poised to make a splash in finals. But as strong hearted as they were, experience is worth its weight in gold, and we didn’t have enough. Our strong batting didn’t quite get enough on the board. It was great to see such a strong season though! Historically our B grade have been the awkward team between a high section A grade and a low section C grade. Resulting in never having their best team on the track. But after building a strong core they worked towards last season. They had put together two strong seasons which are well deserved.

I would like to thank Nathan Ross, Raj Sandhu, Pete Matheson and John Zadow as you have supported this club on and off the track. A club cannot exist without those who do the work behind the scenes.

2023-24 Club Report

Southern Cricket Club fielded 2 sides in the 2023/2024 season, with the A-Grade promoted to Section 3, and the B-Grade competing in Section 8.
Both sides found themselves mid-pack at the end of the year, only a couple of games out of finals but competing hard all the way. We welcomed some new players to the club and a number of players had the opportunity to play in the A-Grade, with Craig Wood excelling to earn the Club Champion Award. It was pleasing to see the a number of our junior players develop throughout the year, and we’re looking forward to what the future holds.

Southern would like to thank the following sponsors for supporting the club financially throughout the season:
- Creative Concreting
- Glow Heating & Cooling
- Magain Real Estate Brighton
Their generous support of community based sport is appreciated by all those involved in our club.

Additionally, we’d like to extend a thank you to our members and committee for another enjoyable season. And finally, a congratulations to the ASCA on reaching their 125th year anniversary, a job well done!

A GRADE REPORT
Section 5: 7 Wins, 4 Losses
The A's had a good season winning 7 out of 11 games. We made it to the Semi finals. We were captained by Kamal Mohammed. We had several players joining our club this year which had introduced new players to our section 5 side.
The entire season was played in a great spirit and players were continually supporting each other not only on the field but also off the field. This had created a great atmosphere within the Team who had loved turning up to the ground every week.
Vikas from Section 5 had won the association wicket keeping trophy.
We had two bowlers who took 5 or more wickets in an innings and plenty of potential to go couple of extra steps and win the grand finals next season.

B GRADE REPORT
Section 7: 1 Wins, 10 Losses
The B's had an off season this year. The team had missed big players from the last season due to moving interstate. We had new additions in our B grade too however it is work under progress and hoping to have good next season.
Congratulations to all who had made debut for Southern Warriors this season. The year was challenging, especially with the players juggling between family, work commitments and the games.
Thanks to all who had played for our club and gave it their all every week and thank you Association for your continuous hard work in organising games year after year.

2023/24 Club Report

After a turbulent first season, Sutton Derby have chosen to pursue one day games at Para Districts CA in 24/25.

2023/24 Club Report

In the 1990s the Warradale Cricket Club fielded 4 teams ‘with left-overs’. Sadly, the winter of 2023 saw and exodus of 9 players, all from the previous year’s A grade. This was no-one’s fault, just a misaligning of the stars. With Ankit and Tyson joining the old-timers, this meant we began the season with 16 players to choose from.
A couple of players who sought to play cricket every Saturday decided to part ways and join other clubs. Fair enough but what a tumultuous start to the year!

We decided to rotate the captaincy to share the associated burdens (team selection, contacting players, balancing scorebooks etc) and up until Christmas, there was only one captain with a loss to his name. I have decided to protect his identity here. So heading into the Christmas break, we had one loss, one washout, 3 wins and 2 outright wins.

After the break it was 3 wins, 2 abandoned and one loss. I’d better come clean – when I say rotate the captaincy, please note Winner did the lion’s share. Thank you, Andrew!

So we approached the finals with a healthy level of confidence, although Coro had beaten us two from two. The semi vs Kenilworth saw the association give us 2 neutral umpires. They compiled 147 and we passed them 5 down.

Unsurprisingly Coro won their semi so we faced off at home in beautiful weather. To bat or to bowl if we won the toss? There was much discussion and variance of opinion. However, Win did the right thing and lost the toss and we were put in to bat.
What can we say? The Craigie boys’ match-saving 90 run partnership, with 72 coming from the younger, far more handsome and gifted Craigie, set a solid foundation.

Sunday was something of a nail-biter, with Coro getting to 2/74, 4/136 and 8/173 at various stages of the chase. A good all-round bowling performance, headed by Ankit with 4/24 from 14 overs. At least we didn’t grass 9 catches like the week before!

The Wazden Year Book will provide all of the year’s on-field highlights so I will simply highlight Joel. And what a way to go out – ‘donating’ his cricket gear, including his pants. Joel, your stats speak for themselves. Thank you for your amazing contributions and for your mateship. Your wickets record is likely to remain… forever. Don’t be a stranger to us – and enjoy your cricket retirement.

At the time of writing this report I am unaware of who the recipient of this year’s Cricketer of the Year is, however I would like to acknowledge Ash Marshall as winner of the ‘Magarey Medal’, and Tyson C, Girish N and Dave P for having excellent seasons! I’d better acknowledge Grant too, for taking out the section 8 ‘keepers trophy.

Our ongoing relationship with the Brighton Lacrosse Club is very highly valued and we extend our deep thanks to Traci and the BLC Committee. A bit of a break with tradition this year as the Best Supporter this year was awarded to the BLC.

Thanks to McAuley Community School / City of Holdfast Bay Council for lease of the oval at reduced rates too. With only one team taking the field they saw fit to halve the previous season’s fee. We had an excellent clean out of the shed at the end of the season and it is all set up for the start of the ’24-’25 season.

Thanks once again to Grant for doing a great job as secretary and to Dom for keeping the books in the black. The occasional happy hour at the shed goes down very well.

I know Smithy has included a special acknowledgement of Puggy Williams in the Wazden. I just wanted to add what a pleasure it was to have known and played with him. My first thought about him is fierce competitor. I’ve rarely come across someone so intense, permanently switched on and talented. What a privilege it was.

What does the future hold? With a few retirements and the rest not getting any younger, we will need to give some careful thought to coming seasons and make decisions about whether we undertake a concerted recruiting drive. We need a strategy and some deliberate effort by all.

Thank you for your support of me over the past year and a special thanks to all of the people in the background, especially the spouses, partners and others who can’t wait for Saturdays to come around so they can have some peace and quiet at home.

2023-24 Club Report

This season had a lot happening around the club, on and off the field. We were expecting to field only two sides this season, Sect 1 & Sect 9. With the disparity in grades and the loss of many of our A Grade players, we approached the Association with our issue and fortunately they agreed, bringing our A Grade down to Sect 3. This was hard for us to request, but was certainly in the best interest of the club. Whilst we understand the noise this created it was the circuit breaker this club needed to reset and rebuild our way back up. Thankfully before the season began, a team from Fitzroy approached us to join our club bolstering our numbers and allowing us to field three sides, Sect 3, Sect 5 and Sect 9.

I would like to congratulate the A Grade and C Grade on making the Grand Final this season. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the job done in either grade, but hopefully it will drive the teams to be successful next season. The B Grade also had a successful season, narrowly missing finals by half a game. We also entered into the T20 ASCA Comp and was placed in the Div 2 Grade. Our boys did us proud and were well Skippered by Harry Singh. The Team played a thrilling final against Plympton defeating them 7/145 to 7/139.

I would like to thank the whole committee on their efforts this year, a lot of work has been done off the field and we are starting to see the hard work paying off.

After many years without juniors the club finally has kids wearing the green & gold of WYC.C.C again. This has been a long time in the making and from a lot of hard dedication from the committee. Mr Neville Linke, our Junior Club Co-ordinator has done an outstanding job to get an Under 12 Team going in the second half of the season. Neville has tirelessly given his time and knowledge to get the team on the park. And how wonderful to see the kids having fun on a Sunday morning at Western Youth Centre. The kids training on Wednesdays and continuing training even after their season finished was just heart warming to see. Thank you Neville for all your hard work and tireless efforts to make sure the kids had fun.

We also had two lots of Big Blast Cricket run during the season, mainly aimed at beginners aged five and upwards. This was run by Neville and Matt Grindley with assistance from Jacob Jolly. Fantastic job Matt and it’s a credit to you that you had kids lining up to come back for a second session of Blast Cricket. I know you enjoyed it and I look forward to it continuing to grow into the future. Jacob, wonderful effort to help out when you could and I know Neville and Matt loved having you assist.

To all our sponsors, The Rex Hotel, Motor King Australia, Aceit Transport Solutions, British Raj Indian Restaurant, Peak 24 Fitness & PT, KJ Barbers, Brooklyn Park Cellars, Cowandilla Charcoal Chickens and Optical by National Pharmacies. I would like to also make special mention to David Robertson for his donation towards our Junior’s, greatly appreciated Robbo.

A massive shout out to Matt King for his outstanding work this year organising our Sponsors. I believe it to be our greatest number of sponsors, which is a huge effort from you Matt and it makes it possible to support our juniors and to keep growing our great club.

To Matt Jolly who stepped up this year on the committee also, looking after all our social media information getting to you all this year. Also helping out with the juniors, great effort mate and very much appreciated.

William “Billy” Black who came on board this year as our official Statistician, thank you for updating Play HQ and compiling our stats each week, fantastic job.

This year we were very fortunate to acquire the services of Taylor behind the bar. Not only serving us drinks but meals as well, a big thank you.

Callum Wright for his continued efforts as Club Secretary. I know the amount of work and time you put in Callum and we are truly grateful as a club and would not have achieved the great progress to date. Still plenty more to do, but we are all getting there.

We continue to work hard this off season to build the club on and off the field and look forward to those challenges. We can't wait for season 2924/25 to arrive!

Thanks
Lee Fuller
President
